The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home has joined up with Southern FM’s Help a Local Child to present the exhilarating ‘Hero for a Day’ event. This brand new charity initiative, sponsored by Carpenter Box accountants, takes place on Saturday 15th November at Bowles outdoor activity centre in Crowborough. The challenge is to take part in 5 adrenaline-fuelled activities! By taking part both children (over 9) and adults will help raise vital funds for two of Sussex’s best-loved charities - Help a Local Child and the Queen Alexandra Hospital Home for physically disabled ex-Servicemen and women.
Up to the challenge? In order to receive a prestigious medal and certificate, participants will need to complete 5 activities at the picturesque Bowles outdoor activity centre which include:
· Rock climbing – on natural sandstone ideal for both the novice and experienced climber
· Zip wire – fly through the air for the ultimate adrenaline rush!
· Abseiling – descend 15m from spectacular sandstone rocks
· Trapeze – the infamous leap from a 15m high platform to the trapeze!
· Ski Slope in Doughnuts!
Other less strenuous activities will also be on offer, and some including the zip wire and abseiling can be adapted for wheelchairs.
The event is timed to take place near Armistice Day, 90 years after the end of the First World War. We need people to join in, be a hero for the day and raise money for some truly remarkable people. All you need to do to get involved is pay a small registration fee (£5 for children, £20 for adults) and get everyone you know to sponsor you (Minimum sponsorship - £20 for children, £100 for adults). To register go to www.southernfm.com/charity or call Tina Ellis on 01903 218444.
Carpenter Box LLP - leading chartered accountants and tax advisors based in Worthing are delighted to be main sponsor and supporter of the event.
Help a Local Child
Southern FM’s charity, Help a Local Child was launched in 2003 with a commitment to helping Sussex children and young people up to the age of 18 who experience the negative effects of poverty, abuse, neglect, homelessness, violence, crime, illness and disability.
Their focus is local fundraising, with all money raised being awarded locally and really benefiting the community. They organise lots of entertaining fundraising events throughout the year and hope that with the help and support of Southern FM DJs, listeners, local celebrities, corporate partners, volunteers, and of course Southern FM employees, they will help more and more children in the area, enabling them to achieve dreams and ambitions they would never have thought possible.
