Though the rain poured, there was a good turn-out of people in the Osborne Road car park, for the official opening of the Country Park by Charles Hendry MP with six year old Bradley Irvine who was a delight.  Barry Kemp was there with a lovely dispaly of photographs, and tanks containing a grass snake, baby and adult slow worms as well as a number of newts, to give us an indication of what could be found in the Park.

Rev. Alan Weaver gave us a short prayer, the ribbon was cut, photographs taken, and despite the rain, a good number of the party took the opportunity to take the circular walk over the new bridge, up the hill to the 2nd new bridge, past the pond and back down to the car park.

For those walking round the park for the first time, they would find the experience delightful and peaceful.  Clearly there is more work to be done, but these are early days.  The pathway that was put down by Coppards was welcome for sturdy footing in the rain.  Work is due to be carried out over a period of time, including clearing the pond at a time convenient for the least disturbance to the wildlife.

There was an air of anticipation at Goldsmiths as over 70 men, women and children, some with very happy dogs in tow, gathered together for the registration and the start of the 10 mile annual boundary walk.   The Deputy Town Mayor, Philip Fermor, welcomed us all and after a short prayer, and wishing us good walking and we set off in great spirits with the

Hi Weald Walkers heading us in the right direction!  As we walked at very varying paces through the  beautiful countryside, surveyed the views, delighted at the spring flowers in the woods, the flowing rivers and the  forest  with its almost fluorescent yellow gorse,  it was hard not to be in awe of the wonderful area we live in.   After a morning of walking in the almost perfect weather and for some, a quick detour via the Coopers Arms  we arrived back at Goldsmiths, and  were  presented with well deserved certificates for completing the course by Cllr Chantelle Wilson.   It may well be true to say there were a few aching muscles towards the end, but there was no doubt it was an experience that was thoroughly enjoyed by all!   Many thanks to all those who helped to make it such a successful event.
