Montargis
The towns of Crowborough and Montargis are twinned through war time connections between Colonel Maurice Buckmaster of the SOE and his counterpart in France Jean Laurent.
The twinning charter was signed on 22 May 1966. We have an active twinning association between the towns, making annual visits. The members stay with families and many long term friendships have been formed, and needless to say a few marriages. Some of the sports clubs also exchange, and there are close connections with The Royal British Legion. Young people from both towns seek holiday work have gained much from the experience.
 Montargis, a much larger town than Crowborough, is about 70 miles south of Paris and with its many canals and waterways is known as The Venice of Gatinais.

Horwich
On 22nd March 1990 the towns of Crowborough and Horwich were the first towns in this country to be twinned
Horwich is a vibrant town situated 5 miles north west of Bolton with a population of approximately 20,000.
The Carnival Society of each town try to have annual exchanges and Crowborough is always delighted to receive our twinned visitors and also very grateful for the warm and welcoming reception received when visiting Horwich. More information can be viewed at www.horwich.gov.uk
