Environment Committee

The Environment Committee is responsible for:

  • The appearance of the town and provision and/or maintenance of street furniture (bus shelters, benches, litter bins), notice/poster boards, town signs, floral arrangements, dog waste bins (please click here for map of dog bin locations) and wooden fingerposts
  • Liaising with East Sussex County Council on highways, transport and environmental issues
  • Footway street lighting
  • Crime prevention measures and CCTV
  • The role of the Community Warden, Ranger and Environment Warden
  • The management of the council’s nature reserves (The Ghyll, Country Park and Bluebell Wood)

The location and time of the meeting will be published on the agenda.

Agendas will be published three working days prior to a meeting.

Members of the public are welcome to attend a committee meeting and there will be fifteen minutes at the start of each meeting designated for public participation.

Members of the public are welcome to remain for the rest of the meeting unless their presence is deemed prejudicial to the public interest by reason of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted or for other special reasons. In these cases the Committee shall make a Resolution which will exclude the public from part or all of a meeting.

All minutes are considered to be draft minutes until they are formally adopted by the committee at the following meeting. Once adopted by the committee they are signed by the Chairman; the copies available on the website do not contain the Chairman’s signature, however, should you wish to view the signed minutes, please call the Council Offices on 01892 652907 and they will be made available for you.
