Discover Crowborough

Crowborough is a busy and vibrant town with good community spirit. There are a wealth of good facilities, events, groups and societies for residents and visitors alike.

The town is the largest and highest inland town in East Sussex.  It is situated within the High Weald Area of outstanding Natural Beauty and bordering Ashdown Forest. Located just south of Tunbridge Wells on the A26, about halfway between London and the south coast, Crowborough has good transport links to both London and the coast.

In addition to the Ashdown Forest, the gorgeous countryside around the town is a walkers’ paradise with parks, nature reserves and woodland areas with many footpaths.  There are also many opportunities for horse riding, cycling and rock climbing locally.

Conan Doyle StatueThe town’s most famous resident was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes. He is commemorated by a statue which stands at the main crossroads in town.

Crowborough is a bustling place, with excellent supermarket provision and numerous small, independent retailers, restaurants and cafes.

There is a farmers’ market once a month and plentiful free parking.

The town also possesses an excellent camping and caravan site within walking distance of the town centre, which is situated next to the leisure centre and one of our many recreation grounds.

The leisure centre has excellent facilities including a swimming pool, gym, sports hall, running track, children’s playground, model railway, skate park, bike track and petanque piste.

The Crowborough Community Centre provides a modern, community space for many community events and activities.  There is a spacious main hall and stage, purpose-built dance studio and three Meeting Rooms of varying sizes, to hire, providing community space for classes, activity groups, conferences, workshops, events and celebrations.
