Crowborough is a thriving community with a variety of social groups, support groups, clubs and associations.

Please find below some information about clubs and groups which you might find useful.  You can also access free, confidential, independent and impartial advice and support through Wealden Citizens Advice Bureau.

Artytime Scrapstore


Artytime Scrapstore is a community project based in Jarvis Brook Recreation Ground, Crowborough.

It is run by members of the community, who volunteer their time to collect and sort the scrap donations.

Crowborough Arts


Crowborough Arts supports the arts, and arts practitioners in the Crowborough area.

Regular events including live music, poetry, play reading, art exhibitions & workshops are arranged throughout the year.

Crowborough Choral Society


The Crowborough Choral Society meet every Wednesday during school term times and there are normally 3 concerts performed each year.

Rehearsals are from 7:45 pm to 9:45 pm at Ashdown Primary School, Herne Road, Crowborough, TN6 2NT

Crowborough Flower Club


Crowborough Flower Club offer Club meetings, Demonstrations, Workshops and Talks, mainly held in the evenings.

Occasional Lunches and garden visits.

Held first Thursday of the month (not January) 7;30 pm at Crowborough Community Centre.

Crowborough & Rotherfield Art Group


Crowborough & Rotherfield Art Group (CRAG) is for people who want to improve their drawing and painting in a sociable setting in the Crowborough area.

Professional artists and tutors give demonstrations and run workshops throughout the autumn and winter months and members meet in the summer to paint together.

Boys Brigade


The Boys Brigade offers opportunities for boys to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment which is rooted in the Christian faith.

The Boys Brigade in Crowborough District is open to boys aged from 5 to 18, of any faith and background.

The Crowborough group takes place at the United Church Hall, Croft Road, Crowborough on Fridays and is split into age groups:

Anchor 5 to 8 years old
Junior 8 to 11 years old
Company 11 to 14 years old
Senior 15 to 18 years old

Crowborough Youth Club


The Crowborough Youth Club offers a safe space meet and have fun. Listen to music, play pool or just chill with your mates.

Open to all young people from 1 to 17 years old.

The group meets at the Crowborough Social Club, Ravenscroft Croft Road, Crowborough TN6 1DL on Monday evenings 7pm to 9pm.

Clued-Up Info


Clued-up is a free service on Crowborough high street for young people between the ages of 11 and 25.

They offer information, advice and support, for just about anything!

It is confidential, they will listen and try to help without judgement. As well as being free, the service is a service you can trust.

First Steps Toddler Group


Term time only, every Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am doing arts and crafts, singing, bible story and snacks

Takes place at Forest Fold Baptist Church, London Road, Crowborough, TN6 1TD

Girl Guiding


Girlguiding Crowborough District is a vibrant group offering girls fun, adventure and the space to discover their potential.

There several groups in Crowborough, split into age groups:

Rainbows 4 to 7 years old
Brownies 7 to 10 years old
Guides 10 to 14 years old

Little Fishes


A group for parents and carers with pre-school children to meet and socialise. The church has a spacious hall where the children can play and run around. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Little Fishes takes place Monday and Friday mornings from 9:15 am to 11:15 am at United Church, Crowborough, Croft Road, TN6 1HA

Scouting


Crowborough’s association with the Scout movement started in 1908.

There several groups in Crowborough which are open to both boys and girls and split into age groups:

Squirrels 4 to 5 years old
Beavers 6 to 8 years old
Cubs 8 to10 1/2 years old
Scouts 10 1/2 to 14 years old
Explorers 14 to 18 years old

Alderbrook Community Association


The Alderbrook Community Association is group for residents in the Alderbrook/Adam Close/The Nightingales/Fermor Road area. Giving residents more say about what goes on in their community by working with local councils and community groups as well as organising community events for residents.

Crowborough Constitutional Club


The Crowborough Constitutional Club is a family friendly, private members Club right in the heart of Crowborough, situated on the main crossroads in the town, next to the Conan Doyle statue.

The Constitutional Club offers its members excellent facilities in a friendly environment to suit all ages.

From live music to regular quiz nights, we offer a variety of entertainment throughout the year as well as opportunities to play crib, snooker or darts and join their successful teams.

Crowborough Community  Association


Crowborough Community Association (CCA) owns and runs the Crowborough Community Centre.

The centre offers hall and meeting room hire for parties and events as well as a range of classes, events and meetings.

Crowborough Social Club


Established for over 100 years, The Crowborough Social Club is situated in the centre of the town, in Croft Road, on a fabulous plot of approximately 0.8 acres.

All are welcome to join and enjoy social evenings, events and trips.

Jarvis Brook Community Association


The Jarvis Brook Community Association organise community events and liaise between residents and local authorities.

When possible, they try and hold meetings every other month on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm at the Jarvis Brook Scout Hall.

Jarvis Brook Social Club


The Jarvis Brook Social Club is a friendly club situated in it's own building on Crowborough Hill, Jarvis Brook.

Neighbourhood Watch


Neighbourhood watch are the largest volunteer-led crime prevention charity in the country, working in communities to support them in being safer, more resilient places to live.

Crowborough Community Pantry


Part of the Green Transition charity, Crowborough Community Pantry is open to anyone with the aim of using donated food that would otherwise likely be wasted for the benefit of the local community.

Local supermarkets and independent retailers donate food that they can no longer sell (but that is still good to eat). Others can donate surplus food, for example allotment holders or gardeners, when they have a glut of fruit or veg at harvest time.

Although the service is free and open to all, donations are encouraged of £2 per bag.

Crowborough Food Bank


The Crowborough Foodbank want to make sure that no one in our local community has to go hungry.

They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by Trussell (formally the Trussell Trust), working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

If you need to access the foodbank services, you will need a foodbank voucher. To find out how to receive a foodbank voucher you can call or email the foodbank who can put you in touch with your relevant local agency.

We Grow – food co-operative


We Grow CIC is a non-profit company with lots of local growing spaces available in Lewes, Crowborough, Uckfield, Forest Row, and surrounding villages.

Connections Cafe Crowborough


Connections Cafe are a community interest company that supports people with dementia, their families and carers.

They run groups in Sussex to engage in social activities in a supportive and safe environment.

The Crowborough Connections Cafe takes place every Friday afternoon 1.30 pm to 4.30pm at the Crowborough Community Centre (Pine Grove, TN6 1FE)

DISC Dementia Support


A non-profit free Dementia Support Service for carers and people living with Dementia in East Sussex.

On the 4th Monday of the month they run a free carers group at the Oasis Community Church, Beacon Road, Crowborough from 10.30am to 12pm.

The Good Company People


The Good Company People are a charity set up to support the changing needs of people living with dementia and those caring for them.​

Services include social events, affordable day services, and clubs. They also offer carer meetings and access to dementia specialists.

Sussex Support Service


Sussex Support Service is a safe and comfortable community space that provides a varied menu of activities and support for people living ​in East Sussex including those living with dementia, Parkinson’s, mental health issues and those who are socially isolated.

They support unpaid carers through respite day care, support groups, informal signposting, training programmes​ and advice.

Wealden Dementia Action Alliance


Wealden Dementia Action Alliance was set up by Wealden District Council in May 2016 to help make our district more dementia friendly and raise the awareness amongst our residents and businesses.

With a lot of local support from various community groups, volunteers, businesses and many more they have set up four local dementia forums across the district all making a difference in their community and raising the awareness of dementia.

WDA also run free community cafes in East Sussex

Community support for individuals with dementia and their caregivers is crucial for enhancing their quality of life. By fostering a supportive community network and making use of local resources, navigating the challenges of the condition can be made with more ease and resilience.

East Sussex Vision Support


East Sussex Vision Support run a Crowborough group for local vision impaired people to meet and socialize, sometimes in a hall or outings.

The meetings take place the 3rd Friday afternoon of each month at All Saints Church Hall from 2pm - 4pm.

Healthwatch East Sussex


Healthwatch East Sussex is part of a country wide, independent charity set up to gather people’s views of health and social care services in the county and make sure they are heard by the people in charge. They cover all areas of health and social care which includes GPs, hospitals, dentists, care homes, pharmacies, opticians and more.

They also provide a free information and signposting service to help people access, understand, and navigate health and care in East Sussex.

ME Meetup


A friendly and relaxed social group offering support and understanding to those with ME and Fibromyalgia and their carers.

Parkinsons – Crowborough Support Group


The Crowborough Support Group for people with Parkinsons and their families and carers.

Join them for sociable and friendly afternoon on the 3rd Weds each month at 3pm at the Crowborough Rugby Club. Refreshments provided, suggested minimum contribution of £2

Crowborough & District Chamber of Commerce


The Crowborough & District Chamber of Commerce promotes and protects the commercial, retail, professional and general interests of businesses in Crowborough.

Crowborough Probus Club


The Crowborough Probus Club is a local association of retired and semi-retired business people.

Regular trips, outings and social events are organised for members, partners and friends, as well as an annual holiday.

The monthly lunches are held on the second Thursday of every month at Crowborough Rugby Club, Steel Cross, Crowborough TN6 2XB; 12.30pm for 1.00pm.

Other meetings and events are arranged throughout the year.

Ditch the Slippers


Fun weekly singing and games sessions for older people in the Crowborough area.

Volunteers support and encourage members with stimulating activities so that family carers can grab some welcome respite for a few hours each week.

Activities take place on:

Monday mornings: Games at United Church in Croft Road
Alternating Thursdays: Singing and Exercise at St Richard’s Church

u3a Crowborough


u3a is a self-managed lifelong learning co-operative of older people who are no longer in full time employment.

The Crowborough u3a as founded in 2006. Currently there are over 700 members with 80 enthusiastic interest and activity groups meeting monthly, fortnightly and some weekly, in the homes of members, or in hired venues.

Coffee and Chat sessions take place on the second Thursday morning of each month 1-am to 12 NOON at Donna Maria restaurant in Crowborough.

There is a monthly General Meeting on the third Thursday of the month with a special guest speaker, held in Crowborough Community Centre, Pine Grove, Crowborough. Doors open at 2.00 p.m. for 2:30 p.m. start.

Crowborough Bonfire & Carnival Society


The Crowborough Bonfire & Carnival Society organise fund raising events and stage the annual Crowborough Carnival held on the second Saturday in September.

Crowborough & District Historical Society


The Society promotes an awareness of the local history of Crowborough and the surrounding villages.

They meet once a month on the first Tuesday of the month at the Guides HQ in Jarvis Brook 7.30pm for 8.00pm start.

However in August there is usually a summer outing instead and in December there is the AGM and other festivities.

Crowborough Miniature Railway


A miniature railway passenger carrying service using steam and electric locomotives.
Family fun for the young at heart of all ages. Membership enquiries welcomed.

Crowborough Model Boat Club


The Crowborough Model Boat Club is a group of enthusiasts who love sailing and building model boats.

Sailing takes place Saturday afternoons from 2pm on the Millennium pond, in front of Crowborough Leisure Centre.

Monthly club meetings are held in Crowborough Community Centre.

Crowborough Rotary Club


The Crowborough Rotary Club’s mission is to support, assist and benefit the Crowborough community.

They run fundraising events to support local charities.

Crowborough & District Veterans and Supporters Assoc


The Crowborough and District Veterans and Supporters Association provides friendship and support to both serving members of the armed forces and veterans, as well as members of the emergency services.

The group welcomes new members including those who have not served but have an interest in supporting the veteran community.

They have regular social meetings and help arrange the annual remembrance event in the town

Pine Grove Pictures


Pine Grove Pictures is a not-for-profit venture run entirely by volunteers.

Their main programme films are shown once a month on a Friday evening at Crowborough Community Centre (Pine Grove, TN6 1FE), The films start at 8pm with doors opening an hour earlier to provide everyone with the chance to enjoy a drink and catch up with friends.

On Thursday evenings they run Pine Grove Extra. These films include classics, world cinema and documentaries.

On Tuesday afternoon they run Golden Oldies screenings, which are great, entertaining films from the past. These screenings are for everyone, but are particularly suited to those living alone, people with special needs and those living with dementia and their carers.

Women’s Institute


The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

There are 2 groups in Crowborough:
Crowborough St Johns meet at the WI Hall, Ghyll Road, Crowborough on 1st Wednesday of the month at 2.15pm

Crowborough Vale meet at the Crowborough Community Centre on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7.15pm.

Friendly non league badminton club for those with some experience.

Beacon Swimming Club


Beacon Swimming Club is an ideal place to start a swimming career (for fitness or competitions).

Crowborough Athletic Football Club


Crowborough Athletic Football Club offers football for all ages and abilities with junior and youth squads starting at Under 5 through to Under 18 and on to Seniors and Veterans.

Their ground is the Community Stadium, Alderbrook Recreation Ground, where they run regular training and matches.

Crowborough Tennis and Squash Club


We play Tennis, Squash, Racketball, we have four squash courts, nine tennis courts seven of which are floodlit. We also have a dance studio and pavilion available for hire.

Dorset Arms Angling Club


Small friendly local angling club offering fishing in East Sussex & Kent. River and still waters. Coarse fish & trout.

Sunday matches throughout the year, Wednesday evening matches during the summer months

East Sussex Gliding Club


Gliding over the South Downs National Park, including gliding instruction. Offering both aerotow and winch launches.

Meeting days are Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

High Weald Walkers


A ramblers group.

Member led walks on Sundays and Tuesdays, to suit all tastes and abilities.

Jarvis Brook Football Club


Jarvis Brook Football Club is an FA Accredited Club that offers football in a fun, safe, secure and structured environment.

The 1st Team plays in the Southern Combination Football League providing a pathway and opportunity for players to play at County level if they wish.

The club runs junior and youth squads starting at Under 5 through to Under 18 and on to Seniors and Veterans and ages and abilities are welcome.

Netball For Fun Club


Social netball sessions for adults (16 years +) of all ages, warm ups, practice & matches for beginners to league.

Mondays regular netball, Thursdays walking and regular netball.

9:30 - 10:30 am walking & regular netball at Goldsmiths outside court.

Our Parks – Free Fitness Classes


Wealden District Council, in partnership with Crowborough Town Council, run free-of-charge outdoor physical activity sessions and an online exercise Couch to Fitness programme led by fitness company Our Parks.

The exercise sessions, tailored for all abilities, are delivered on Mondays and Thursdays by qualified instructors in Jarvis Brook, Crowborough and started November 2023.
